Friday Harbour 15th Anniversary “Year of Movement”
Friday Harbour is celebrating 15 years of helping cancer patients traveling to Houston access lifesaving treatment by providing free temporary lodging near the Texas Medical Center. Since 2011, we’ve provided over 5,800 nights of lodging, saving families more than $1 million in lodging expenses while they focus on healing.
Healing Cancer One Night at a Time
What began with one family’s cancer journey has grown into a community-wide mission to ensure that no patient misses treatment because they cannot afford a place to stay.
Patients often travel hundreds of miles to Houston for care at institutions like MD Anderson. Without nearby lodging, treatment adherence becomes harder, costs rise, and stress compounds. Friday Harbour removes that burden so families can focus on healing.
Our Impact in Houston
- 5,800+ nights of free lodging
- 2,200+ patients served
- 90% report reduced financial burden
- 52% say they may have delayed treatment without us
Friday Harbour is expanding its impact to Healing Cancer One Night at a Time, with a coordinated slate of events designed to provide free lodging for patients. The 2026 Movement Initiative has several ways to participate, including two major spring activations:
A Year of Movement
To mark our 15th anniversary, Friday Harbour has launched “A Year of Movement”, a citywide call to action inviting Houston to stand with cancer patients and their families.
Throughout 2026, we aim to:
- Welcome 100 Beacon Donors
- Provide 100 nights of rest per month
- Raise $100,000
Because access to treatment begins with access to lodging.
Friday Harbour proudly partners with MD Anderson, Holiday Inn, and local hospitality partners to ensure patients traveling to the Texas Medical Center have a safe place to stay.
